PAULSGROVE BAPTIST CHURCH
GOD'S NEW COMMUNITY (EPHESIANS)
Our neighbourhood of Paulsgrove in many ways displays much of what is good about community. There are generations within the same families who remain in the area and many relationships are close-knit; you often bump into people whilst out and about; and there is a rally-round mentality when someone is in need. So the idea of ‘community spirit’ is highly esteemed by many in our area and is probably why many people are reluctant to move away.
But there is a community that God has created which is designed to display ‘community’ in an even greater way – and it’s called the Church. In welcoming us into His perfect community of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, through Jesus’ sacrifice for us, Christians are also formed into a community of believers.
Paul’s letter to the Ephesians helps us with the challenge we have with our western individualistic mindset to realize that we’ve been saved to be part of the body of Christ with others, and to grow in Christ together – as equals in unity, thanking God and praying for each other, living in the light as new people, and battling against our enemy the devil.
As Christ is at work in us as members of Paulsgrove Baptist Church, can we demonstrate what it means to truly live in community with each other, God’s new community, in a way that is so attractive to those in our neighbourhood and draws them to Christ?
