Team Jesus

Crazy Christians – Faithful Jesus – Blameless people

We learn from God’s team in Corinth how to be God’s team In Paulsgrove

Matthew 16:17-20 ‘Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.’

God’s plan and purpose is clear throughout the Bible. He is working to call people to a restored eternal relationship with him. Jesus is at the centre of this work. The church, God’s ‘called out’ people is the visible evidence that God is at work. The church is also the means by which people see the power of God in action. We have a tremendous privilege and responsibility!

The church in Corinth had its struggles and problems. Every church does, even more so when Jesus is not the focus of everything. Not long after Paul left Corinth all sorts of problems developed. Divisions, immorality and poor theology led to arguments and law suits within the church. Communion, rather than being a place of togetherness became a place of division. The church in Corinth was full of crazy Christians, proud of all the wrong things. Paul steps in with some great advice, loving encouragement and stern words.

As we read what Paul wrote we have some great material that help us see what makes an effective church. Summed up in one phrase; It’s Team Jesus! Our prayer is this series will encourage us all to grow in our understanding of what it means to be called to be Team Jesus in Paulsgrove and to enjoy putting that into action.

We can be confident that God’s work will succeed: ‘He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of Our Lord Jesus Christ.’ 1 Corinthians 1:8
